Cedar Horse

I drew the image first, then hunted for cedars, amongst a thicket bent by an ice storm, that matched the curves in the drawing. After a couple of weathering years, this sculpture became the skeleton for a new horse. In one way or another all of the horses in my work evoke Pat and Peg, my dad's pair of Belgian salt and pepper work horses, or Thor, a palamino that I rode in my late teens. My ideal ride was sans saddle or bridle, naked, under a full moon — an experience at once poetic, erotic, and terrifying.
